That first set of leaves (called cotyledon-which means the embryonic first leaves) will eventually fall off. Roots will form along the buried stem, establishing a stronger root, thus a stronger plant. Don’t water too late in the evening. You want the plants to dry thoroughly before night. Too many problems with fungus start when you continuously water tomatoes late in the evening. Stake or cage these tomatoes as they grow tall and hold a heavy load. These healthy 5-7 foot tall vines will bear heavy mid- season, and will continue to produce into the fall, though not as heavily. Expect harvest 75-85 days after seeding. They will produce until the frost
